Maryland State Assessment (MSA)
The MSA for reading will be given to ALL students on Tuesday, April 8th and Wednesday, April 9th from 7:30 AM - 11:00 AM. It is important for ALL students to be present during the testing days. Please try to schedule appointments in the afternoon after testing.
Vision and Hearing Screening
The Hearing and Vision Screening will be held on Monday, April 14th and Tuesday, April 15th, 8:00 AM - 2:15 PM. Volunteers are needed both days to record data. If you would like to volunteer for any amount of time on either day, please contact Becky Brown at 410-313-5545 or rbrown@hcpss.org.

Congratulations to 6th grader Ada Schnake from Mr. Lewis GT Social Studies class. Ada who won FIRST Place in the category, Junior Individual Documentaries, for her work on The Armenian Genocide, at the History Day Competition on March 28th. Ada will now compete in the Maryland History Day on Saturday, April 26th, at the University of Maryland. Thank you to the other student participants for their exceptional work: Jenna Bergquist, Emily Galik, Venya Gushchin, Caroline Johnson, Ali Lieberman, Hope Loiselle, Taylor Mann, and Emma Warman.
The next GT Parent Academy Meeting is on Tuesday, April 15th at 7:00 PM at the Faulkner Ridge Center in Columbia. This session will focus on The Howard County Public System's G/T Education Program: Moving from Good to Great with special guest, Mr. Robert Glascock, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology. The GT Orientation Meeting for Incoming 6th Grade Parents is on Thursday, April 17th in the Media Center from 7:00 PM - 7:45 PM. Parents will learn about the GT Content Area classes, the GT Research Class, and enrichment opportunities for all students.
The GT Enrichment Fair is on Thursday, May 8th from 6:30PM - 8:00 PM in the GT Room, Computer Lab, and Media Center. Students who worked on GT enrichment projects will showcase their work and demonstrate programs using technology.
Students from every middle school will have their creative writing and art published in the Howard County literary magazine, Our Voice. Congratulations to our writers Maya Durham, Anna Rimlinger, and Ciara Stevens and to our artists, Deandra Fike and Brittany Freeman. A reception for Our Voice is scheduled for April 29th from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at the Oakland Mills Interfaith Center in Columbia. Ciara Stevens will read her selection at this event.

Capitol Debate is excited to offer a spring session in Mock Trial. Students will experience the excitement of the courtroom by learning the fundamentals of trial practice and applying them in a real "mock" jury trial. Participants will act as both witness and lawyer, including opening and closing speeches before a jury, direct examination of witnesses and cross examination of witnesses. Mock Trial is appropriate for students with any level of experience. Sessions will be held at Centennial High School each Tuesday from 3:45 PM - 5:00 PM starting on April 8th and running until June 10th. Cost: $150. Better BedRest, Inc. will hold a free parenting workshop, "How to have an imperfect family and be perfectly satisfied": an interactive evening with Dr. Brad Sachs" on Wednesday, April 30th from 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM. Candlelight Concerts will present The Pacifica String Quartet on Saturday, April 5th at 7:30 PM. The concert will be held at Wilde Lake Interfaith Center in Columbia. The Dorsey Search Dolphins Swim Team will hold a Kickoff Splash Down Party on Saturday, May 10th from 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM at the swim center. Bring a friend! The team welcomes new and returning members, ages 5 - 18. Swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool in freestyle or backstroke by the June 14th Time Trials. Grace Adventures Day Camp will take place July 7 - August 1 from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM with extended hours available. The camp will be located at Grace Community Church in Fulton, with 30 acres that include playing fields, a pavilion, wooded areas and a stream. The first annual Howard County GreenFest will be held on Saturday, April 5th from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Glenwood Center next to the Glenwood Library. The theme of this year's festival is "Green Buildings" and will feature companies promoting green technologies in homes. Students from River Hill High School will be there to sign up county residents for free home energy audits. "Reptiles Alive," from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM will feature live animal demonstrations. Stevens Forest Cooperative Nursery School will hold a Longaberger Basket Bingo to benefit the school, on Friday, April 11th at The Lodge in Catonsville. Doors will open at 6:00 PM. The Music and Arts Center will hold it's 15th Annual Summer Band Camp for grades 4 - 12 on July 7th - 18th from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM for Concert Band and Wind Ensemble; 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM for Jazz Ensemble.
